With minimal preparation, this classic comfort food dish will instantly become part of your weekly dinner rotation.

It has tons of tangy-sweet glaze flavor with a hint or orange that is cooked right into the juicy pork. I love having a delicious home-cooked meal on the table within minutes of coming home from work on a busy weeknight.

Trying New Recipes

Years ago, I first made a ham in the slow cooker using marmalade and it turned out beautifully. Then one day, I was looking to add some flavoring to a pork roast and thought it would be good.

A hearty meal that the whole family enjoys and asks for often. In fact, they mentioned how much they loved the gravy that I made using the drippings.

As a mom, I love it because it is so simple to make and when you can have a meal that is this easy and your family loves too, it makes me happy that they are happy and satisfied.

How to Make this Easy Slow Cooker Marmalade Pork Roast

The vegetable seasoning adds lots of flavor without all the added salt. This is great if you are watching your salt intake. Then orange marmalade is spooned all over the pork.

As the pork roast cooks, the juices combine with the seasonings, and it is submerged in this orange sauce that infused the pork with the light and fruity flavor.

I started this receipt 4 days ahead of time. This pork butt roast was on sale a few months ago and I purchased two and put them in the freezer when I got home. It is best to thaw your meat before adding it to your crock pot and this takes 3 to 4 days in the refrigerator.

Here are the ingredients to the crock pot pork roast recipe; there are not that many.

Roast Pork

Pork Roast, a Salt Free Vegetable Seasoning, and a whole jar of Sweet Orange Marmalade. Add the pork roast, seasoning, and scoop the marmalade over the top in your slow cooker and cook on high 5-6 hours and on low 8-10 hours.

Pork Gravy

For the Pork Gravy with a Hint of Tangy Orange combines the Pork Roast Drippings with an equal part of water. I did 2 cups of each. Then season with soy sauce, salt, and black pepper. Bring this to a boil. While this is coming to a boil, mix the corn starch with cold water until all dissolved. Then slowly pouring into the gravy stirring constantly. Cook a few more minutes until it begins to thicken slightly.

Pro Tip. This recipe makes tons of flavorful drippings, so I had more than needed for making the gravy to smother veggies and potatoes too.  I froze two 2-cup airtight containers of the drippings. This will come in handy someday soon when I want to make a soup or sauce.

How long does pork take in slow cooker on high?

For a 3-5 pound Pork Butt or Pork Shoulder that are tougher cuts of pork, it will take 3 to 4 hours on high and 5 to 6 hours on low for the meat to become tender.

A larger pork roast will take longer to cook through. A 7-8 pound roast will require a larger slow cooker and take 6-7 hours on high and 10-11 hours on low.

How much pork roast per person?

When there are few side dishes and meat is the main part of the meal, plan for 8 ounces or half a pound per person. If you want to plan for some leftovers or have a few people that will take seconds or those that are voracious eaters, up that serving to 12 ounces or three quarters of a pound.

However, if you are serving a lit of side dish choices, serving appetizers, and having desserts you could serve less of your meat and end up with leftovers.

A general estimate for a 5 pound roast is that it should feed 7-10 people.

Meat Is the Main. When cooking something like steak, chicken, or pork, where meat is the main feature of the meal and paired with a few side dishes, we recommend about 1/2 pound (eight ounces) per person, or up to 3/4 (12 ounces) pound for bigger appetites and those who love leftovers.

Leftover pork roast Recipes

There are so many uses for leftover pork. Make pork carnitas, pork tacos, reheat the pork and serve with gravy over bread, add to soup, or dice fine and add to a fried rice or stir fry recipe.

This pulled pork enchilada casserole is one of those delicious leftover pork roast recipes. Just fill the tortilla shells, roll, add the sauce, and bake until the cheese is melty, and the sauce is bubbling.
