Tender beef stew meat cooks low and slow in a flavorful blend of onion soup mix, sloppy joe sauce, and red wine, creating a deep, hearty gravy that’s perfect over mashed potatoes, egg noodles, or piled high onto a sandwich bun.
Place the beef stew meat in the slow cooker. Sprinkle the onion soup mix evenly over the meat. Pour in the Manwich sauce and red wine. Stir well to combine.
4 Pounds Beef Stew Meat, 4 Ounces Onion Soup Mix, 15 Ounces Manwich Sloppy Joe Sauce, ½ Cup Red Wine
Cook on Low for 8 hours, or High for 4 hours.
During the last 30 minutes of cooking. In a small bowl, whisk together the cornstarch and water until smooth. Stir the mixture into the slow cooker. Continue cooking until the gravy thickens.
Don’t rush the cook time — low and slow produces the most tender beef.
If you prefer deeper flavor, you can brown the beef before adding it to the slow cooker (optional).
