How to Cook Frozen Hamburgers in the Oven

Here is the best way to cook frozen hamburgers in the oven. We do it all the time. This method results in a moist and delicious burger with minimal work.

If you are like me and work full-time, often I have not thought about what to make the family until I get into the car to drive home. That is when I think about what I have in my freezer ready to go. This is one of those recipes.

When you are in need of a simple dinner. Just take the frozen patties out of the freezer, pop it in the oven and you can concentrate on the sides or take a few minutes for yourself. Recipes like this save the day for me and make dinnertime with the family fun and amazing rather than a lot of work after a long tiring day.

You can use this time-saving method with just a few simple steps for any kind of hamburger meat; frozen ground beef, chicken burgers, turkey burgers, or venison burgers.

Cook Burger Patties for a Crowd

If you have a big family, are entertaining a crowd, or just want to make enough for today and heat them up later, cooking hamburgers in the oven is fabulous.

A few of my family members even prefer this oven method over grilled burgers. That is okay with me, because there is much less clean up and I do not have to watch a grill for flair ups.

Uniform Hamburger Size

Cooking frozen burgers this way turns out a tender and delicious and uniform hamburger. Cookie sheet hamburgers are so quick and easy.

How to Cook Frozen Hamburger Patties in the Oven

Let’s make this classic American cuisine without busting out the grill to achieve juicy burgers that taste like they just came off the grill.

Easy Prep

Preheat the oven to 425°F (218°C).

Since I generally make 6 to 8 burgers at once, I use a half sheet pan. Depending on how many burgers you want to make at one time, you could use a smaller baking sheet too. This recipe is easily customizable.  Pro Tip. Line the sheet pan for easier clean up. Just lay aluminum foil or parchment paper for easier clean up later.

Next lay a metal wire rack on top of the lined sheet pan. I have a nice half sheet pan set where the wire rack fits in nicely. Spray the wire rack with cooking spray. Pro-Tip. If you do not have a wire rack that fits a baking sheet, try and use a cooking cooling rack in the pan. Keeping the burgers off the liner or pan itself is the key to a better result getting the meat a bit crispy on the outside for that grilled flavor. This allows the extra fat to drop and drain away from the meat rather than sitting in the fat.

Baking the Frozen Hamburger Patties

Next, take the frozen hamburgers straight out of the freezer and lay them on the wire rack in a single layer. Leave some space between the patties for even cooking.

Top with your favorite seasoning for flavor as it bakes, which can be as simple as salt and pepper. I just season the top side for now, when I flip the burgers, I season the other side. It helps the seasoning stick to the ground meat better.

Place in the center oven rack of your preheated oven and bake burgers for 25 minutes. Flipping them after the patties have cooked for 15. Add seasoning to the top of the hot burger. Continue cooking another 10 minutes. Check the burgers’ internal temperature using a digital meat thermometer. They must be cooked to 160°F (71°C) or more. If you prefer your burgers to be on the well-done side, leave them in for another 5 minutes.

Cook time can vary based on oven temperatures and the thickness of the meat.

Serve with your favorite toppings.

If you want a cheeseburger, just add a slice of cheese to the top and bake for another 1 to 2 minutes.

The topping ideas are endless. For instance, I personally love hamburgers from Wendy’s and they add toppings like bacon, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, mayo, ketchup, mustard, and double up on the hamburger patties when requested.

Pub Style Hamburgers from Frozen Patties

Toast your hamburger favorite bun in the oven too.

Just place on a baking sheet opened up, face-down. Bake for 5 minutes. If you love a toasted buttered bun, butter the inside of the bun before placing face-side down. Pro Tip. For easy clean up if buttering your bun before toasting, line the baking sheet with aluminum foil.

Good Burger Seasoning Ideas

Seasoning gives a so-so burger extraordinary gourmet flavor. It is the easiest way that I have tried. Season your burgers just before cooking. Try these seasonings individually or all together for better-tasting burgers.

  1. Paprika
  2. Smoked Paprika
  3. Ground Black Pepper
  4. Salt
  5. Brown Sugar
  6. Garlic Powder
  7. Onion Powder
  8. Cayenne Pepper

Reheating Cooked Hamburgers

You can reheat a lot of burgers in the oven at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 5 to 10 minutes on a wire rack placed on a baking sheet. Reheat them in a frying pan for 5 minutes, flipping half way through. The fastest way to reheat is a microwave for 30 to 60 seconds.

Are frozen hamburgers as good as fresh?

Yes, if I placed them side-by-side after they were baked, I bet you will not be able to taste or tell the difference. In fact, freezing hamburgers preserves their freshness much longer than the refrigerator.

Therefore, go ahead and make up those ground beef patties and freezer when the meat is on sale. It is a great way to save money and feed your family delicious meals on a budget.

Do you have to flip burgers in the oven?

If you bake the burgers on a baking sheet, yes, I would recommend flipping halfway through.

However, if you are cooking the burgers on a sheet pan with the wire rack, then, it is not necessary to slip. The burgers on the wire rack will have the hot air circulating around them the entire baking time. However, I prefer the ability to season the other side when it is cooked halfway through as the seasoning sticks better and I think that the flavor and juiciness of the burger is best when doing this.
